There is no set time. The Gambling Commission says it cannot give a timescale for ID checks: if an operator can verify you electronically the process “may be instant”, and if you are asked for documents “it may take longer”. Two operators whose pages this desk read on 17 October 2026 publish 24 to 48 hours for manual document checks.

So how long casino verification takes in the UK depends on which check is running. “Verification” is several separate checks, each on its own clock, and each holds up a different stage. This page is an evergreen explainer, not a news report: it sets out each check, the stage it stops, and the published figure where one exists. Where none exists, it says so.

Which verification checks can a UK casino run, and how long does each take?

Five checks, from the pages read. The timing column quotes only what those pages publish.

CheckWhen it runsWhat it holds upPublished timing, pages read 17 Oct 2026

Three of the five rows have no published clock on the pages read. That is the honest answer to “how long”, and it is why the rule further down matters more than any hour count.

Why can the electronic check be instant?

Because it is a data match, not a document review. The Commission’s age and ID guide says operators can often match your account against data held by credit reference agencies and the electoral roll. It also notes that a customer cannot place a bet until verified, so operators “will verify customers as quickly as possible”. The incentive runs the stopwatch. Note the regulator’s verb, though: “may be instant” is a possibility, not a promise.

How long do casino document checks take?

Here the published figures appear, and both come from the operators themselves. 10bet’s casino page says most of its verification is automatic and “completed straight away”, but documents checked manually “can take 24 to 48 hours”. Fruity King’s verification page gives a “Typical timeline: 24-48 hours” and says it varies with the quality of your uploads. Its list: photo ID, proof of address dated within the last three months, and a photo of the card used with sensitive details covered.

Neither page, in the passages read here, says whether those 48 hours are working hours or wall-clock hours, which is the same gap that stretches a Friday request into Monday. The weekend post walks that clock. Both figures are each operator’s own claim, not a measurement.

Can a casino ask for verification when I withdraw?

Not for ID it could have asked for earlier. The regulator’s guide says an operator cannot make proof of age and identity a condition of withdrawing “if they could have asked you at an earlier point”, with one stated exception: occasions where it can only ask at that time “in order to fulfil legal obligations”. For anti-money-laundering information it says operators “should ask promptly and not only when you want to withdraw”. Then the line that matters most: where an operator delays a withdrawal over insufficient ID, “they may be in breach of Licence Condition 17” and may face regulatory action. The word is “may”, and it stays “may” here.

A source-of-funds review is a check that may legitimately arrive later; the source of funds guide covers what it asks for.

Casino verification taking too long in the UK: what is normal?

The only industry figure on the pages read is dated. A Commission blog posted on 17 July 2023 says data from “some of the largest gambling companies” shows those firms fulfil around 99 percent of withdrawal requests within 24 to 48 hours. That covers whole withdrawals at the biggest firms, not verification alone, and not every operator. The same blog calls withdrawal problems the number one topic consumers raise with its contact centre.

If your money is already stuck, the pending withdrawal guide sets out the next steps, and whether a casino can refuse to pay covers the complaint route.

Casino verification FAQ

How long does it take to complete ID checks?

The Gambling Commission says it cannot provide a timescale, because the length of the process varies. If the operator can verify you electronically, the check “may be instant”. If you are asked for documents, “it may take longer”. The two operator pages this desk read put document checks at 24 to 48 hours, which is each operator’s own published figure.

What happens if I can’t complete verification checks?

You cannot gamble. The regulator’s guide says a customer cannot place a bet until they have been verified, and that where the electronic match is not enough you will be asked for copies of identity documents. If the check is instead holding up a withdrawal, the same page says a delay over insufficient ID may breach Licence Condition 17.

How long can a casino take to verify my account?

No maximum is set on the regulator pages this desk read. What the Commission does set is an order: age and identity are verified before you gamble, and further information, such as anti-money-laundering checks, should be asked for promptly, not only when you withdraw. A check that could have been done at sign-up and turns up at payout is, on the regulator’s wording, one that may put the operator in breach, unless a legal obligation required asking then.

Verification is the one clock you can start early: upload clean documents before you deposit, not after you win. This site covers adults only, 18+, and a quicker payout is also a quicker route back to the deposit button.
